Why Should Anyone Focus On Spine Care As The Key To Improving The Quality Of And Decreasing The Cost Of Health Care In America?

Other than chemical dependency and psychological disease, spine problems account for the majority of money spent in the United States Health Care System.  Professor Stover Snook points out in his course at Harvard that in the year 1998 alone total health care expenditures for the treatment of back pain were about $26.3 billion, some three times higher than the total cost of all forms of cancer related diseases.

Other than Obstetrics and Gynecology spine problems also accounted for the highest amount of money spent in the medical-malpractice arena.  As we enter into the 21st century it appears few patients or health care professionals really know much about this issues. Yet, it is clear that the the real understanding of spine care is the secret to better, and cheaper, health care in the United States.

There is no question today but that the early identification and prevention of genomic (genetic) spine disorders will be the most effective means, in the future, of preventing incapacitating spine-related disease and allow a dramatic  reduction in health care costs.  The need for independently generated information (no hidden agendas) on this subject is essential. Helping to spread awareness is the role of the Burton Report
®, first published on January 1, 2000 whose mission is to attempt to provide such information as a public service.

The information contained on this web site is intended to bring more rational thought into the health care system and the health care process and to allow patients to get into the "driver's seat" regarding control of their health care destiny.

The overall price of health care is rising.  In addition to increasing cost the ever increasing quantity of use is a serious burden to the system.
